the wider area
Le Combal is ideally situated for a variety of excursions & day trips including :
Carcassone
A fairytale medieval walled city with classic pointy roofed towers and numerous gift shops.
Figeac
A pretty medieval town on the river Célé (similar to St-Antonin-Noble-Val) Shops & good restaurants line narrow cobbled streets and a museum to Champollion the Frenchman who deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Roquefort
A day trip south could include visiting the world famous blue cheese caves where this classic strong cheese is made.

Gorges du Tarn
One of the natural wonders of the world. Similar to a mini grand canyon with spectacular scenery & a crystal clear river.
Viaduc de Millau
The tallest motorway bridge in the world. A modern feat of engineering, this bridge across the river Tarn is higher than the Eiffel tower. It snakes proudly across the Millau valley towering above the town. The visitors centre is well worth a trip –you can ask for the film to be in English.
Rocamadour
On the way home north, Gouffre de Padirac – a stunning cave system accessed by boats, Rocamador – a cliff edge religious site and Martel on the Dordogne river are all worth visiting if you are driving north and have plenty of time.

Albi
Albi has striking red brick architecture, an incredible cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec art Museum. Numerous shops & good restaurants can be found lining its cobbled streets.
Toulouse
The capital of the Midi-Pyrénées region and 4th largest city in France. Also described as a pink city ‘la ville rose’ because of its distinctive brick buildings. Famous for its aerospace industry & rugby union, the city offers numerous attractions including: Cité de L’Espace, Airbus HQ, Stade Toulousain - the rugby stadium, Saint-Sernin Basilica (the largest romanesque church in Europe), Saint-Étienne Cathedral and Place du Capitole –the main square surrounded by shopping streets.
Pech Merle Caves
In the Lot near Saint-Cirque-Lapopie these caves are very impressive with surprisingly good cave paintings and artefacts. (Not suitable for pushchairs or the elderly).
